About me

Serving the City That Raised Me

I’m Dillon Hurt—husband, father, entrepreneur, and a lifelong resident of Ivins, Utah. This city raised me, from learning to ride a bike on its quiet streets to growing up under the influence of my parents’ dedication to public service. My father, Paul, served over 30 years as a teacher and Vice Principal at Snow Canyon High School before becoming Principal at Dixie Middle School. My mother, Shellie, devoted 18 years to the Ivins Fire Department, including five as a volunteer. Their example taught me that true leadership means showing up for your community.

My connection to Ivins runs deep. While I was attending 5th grade and Red Mountain Elementary, my brother and I won an essay contest to name the new city park, proposing “UNITY Park” to stand for Uniting Neighbors In Ivins Together Year-round. Though not a perfect acronym, it reflected our young understanding of the importance of unity—a principle I still hold dear. Seeing our name on the park’s sign was a proud moment that reinforced my commitment to contributing to our community.

After graduating from Snow Canyon High School in 2012, I served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in West Virginia, honing my ability to connect with and serve diverse people. I earned a Masters degree in business from Utah State University in 2020. These experiences fueled my entrepreneurial drive, leading me to found DIM Shade Co., an online retailer of motorized and manual roller shades.

My greatest source of strength is my family. In 2017, I married my wife, Kylee, daughter of Tav and Kamie Truman, both of whom dedicated their careers to the Washington County School District. Together, we are raising three children, one of whom attends Red Mountain Elementary, where she benefits from some of the same exceptional teachers and mentors who shaped my education when I attended Red Mountain. As a member of the Red Mountain Community Council, I take pride in helping shape educational priorities and budget initiatives to support our students and school.

I’m running for Ivins City Council because I believe in the power of community, the importance of thoughtful growth, and the promise of a united future. This campaign isn’t about me—it’s about us. Let’s preserve the best of Ivins, and plan wisely for what comes next.

A Stronger Ivins, Rooted in Our Values

My vision for Ivins begins where our strength has always been—our community. I believe we can protect the soul of our city while embracing a future that reflects both our history and our hopes. At the heart of this vision are four guiding principles:

Preserving Our Small-Town Charm: Ivins is special because of its open spaces, welcoming neighborhoods, and slower pace of life. I’m committed to keeping that character intact by supporting thoughtful zoning, protecting natural beauty, and ensuring that any growth complements our unique identity.

Promoting Responsible Growth: Growth is coming—but we don’t have to sacrifice what we love. I’ll advocate for smart, sustainable planning that ensures infrastructure keeps up with development, supports local businesses, and addresses community needs while maintaining balance.

Supporting Local Education: As a proud product of Red Mountain elementary and a parent of school-aged children, I understand the vital role education plays in shaping our community’s future. Red Mountain and Vista are cornerstones of Ivins, nurturing our children with knowledge and values. I’ll advocate for our children to learn from dedicated teachers who can live in our community, equipped with the best resources to inspire young minds. Learning from tragic events elsewhere, our schools will place the safety of our children first, fostering secure environments where they can thrive.

Building Community Unity: True leadership begins with listening. I’ll champion transparency, encourage resident input, and create spaces where all voices matter—ensuring unity is more than a name, but a living value we foster together.
